Ayo, Shakira delivered one for the history books on a night the whole planet was watching. On July 20, 2026, the Colombian superstar posted on Instagram with a message for her collaborators. She named Burna Boy, the Ghetto Kids, and her full team – thanking them for a performance she called “a performance that will live on forever.” The post cleared 3.8 million likes.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final going down July 19-20, that football emoji in her caption wasn’t hiding anything. Shakira has a World Cup history like almost no other artist alive. She performed “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. That track became one of the biggest crossover moments in sports and music history. Sixteen years later, she pulled back up on the biggest stage – this time with two of Africa’s most electrifying performers by her side.

Burna Boy on a World Cup Final stage is just correct. The Port Harcourt-born artist has spent the last decade turning Afrobeats into a worldwide movement. Albums like “Love, Damini” and “I Told Them…” made him one of the most decorated artists of his generation. He’s got the Grammy. He’s got sold-out arenas across multiple continents. A collaboration with Shakira at the World Cup Final is the kind of résumé addition that speaks for itself.

The Ghetto Kids are a Ugandan youth dance group from Kampala. They’ve built a massive following on high-energy performances mixing traditional Ugandan dance with contemporary styles. The group started as a way to give kids in Kampala’s neighborhoods a creative path through movement. Getting from there to a World Cup Final stage is not a small thing. Shakira understood that – she named them first in her caption.

Her Instagram post was specific about it. She tagged each collaborator by handle and even credited social media participants by name. She didn’t owe any of that. She did it anyway. That kind of public acknowledgment lands differently than a vague thank-you.

The 3.8 million likes tell the rest of the story. That puts this among the highest-engagement celebrity posts of the year. People weren’t passively scrolling. They stopped.

This performance lands at the right time for Shakira. She’s been firmly back in the global conversation for a couple of years now. Her 2023 collaboration track with producer Bizarrap became a genuine cultural phenomenon. It called out her ex Gerard Piqué by name and racked up hundreds of millions of streams. That one announced she wasn’t stepping back. This World Cup moment is the next chapter.

Burna Boy takes something real from this too. Getting name-checked by Shakira to an audience that stretches across every continent is a co-sign money can’t buy.

Shakira wasn’t exaggerating. The numbers backed up every word.
