Shubman Gill continues to rewrite record books in IPL 2026. The captain achieved multiple major milestones during his explosive innings against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Ahmedabad on Thursday night. Leading from the front in a crucial clash, Gill smashed a commanding 64 off just 37 deliveries to help Gujarat Titans (GT) post a mammoth total of 229/4. While his innings played a massive role in GT securing a dominant 89-run victory, it also helped the young skipper enter an elite list of Indian T20 captains.
Shubman Gill overtakes Sachin Tendulkar in T20 captaincy records
During his fluent knock, Gill crossed the 1,872-run mark as a T20 captain to move past Sachin Tendulkar on the all-time list of Indian batters with the most runs as captain in T20 cricket. Gill now has 1,934 runs as captain in the format and also moved ahead of Ajinkya Rahane in the standings. The list continues to be led comfortably by Virat Kohli, who amassed 6,564 runs as captain in T20 cricket across 193 innings.
The Gujarat skipper’s rise as both a batter and leader has been one of the biggest success stories of IPL 2026. Under his captaincy, Gujarat have looked like one of the most complete teams in the tournament and have already secured a top-two finish in the points table.
Gill completes another T20 milestone
The 26-year-old achieved another huge landmark during the same innings by completing 6000 runs in T20 cricket. Gill reached the milestone in just his 185th innings, becoming the third-fastest Indian batter to achieve the feat behind KL Rahul and Kohli.
Among all players globally, only legends like Chris Gayle, Kohli and Rahul reached the milestone faster. Gill also became only the fourth player in men’s T20 history to score more than 6000 runs before turning 27 years old. Across his T20 career so far, Gill has accumulated more than 6000 runs with six centuries and 38 half-centuries, further highlighting his incredible consistency at such a young age.
