The leak of the Sony 1000X was shared by veteran leaker OnLeaks for HotEUDeals, and is expected to launch tomorrow (Tuesday, May 19), just a year after the company’s WH-1000XM6 series.
Based on the leaked materials, the changes look to be largely design-based. The new headphones have thicker leatherette padding than their predecessors and larger ear cups. The touch control surface has also been moved to both the side and rear of each cup.
As noted by both MacRumours and AndroidAuthority, there are now polished metal stems that, depending on the colour choice, are either glossy black or chrome on white. This is part of the new robust design of the headphones. Reportedly, durability was a major recurring complaint with the XM6 headphones.
According to MacRumours, battery life is also roughly comparable to the XM6’s, with up to 24 hours of playback with acoustic noise cancelling enabled, and 32 hours with it off. If you need only a little battery life, there’s also a five-minute quick-charge feature that gives you 1.5 hours of battery life.
The new headphones will cost US$649 (approximately C$891.85), significantly more expensive than the XM6 headphones and roughly the same price as the AirPods Max 2 (C$799), suggesting the headphones will be marketed more as a luxury item.
