Former India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has shared his reaction on viral social media claims suggesting he was unhappy with his omission from India’s tour of England and the decision to appoint Shreyas Iyer as the team’s new captain. At a time when India are navigating a major transition in the shortest format, the experienced batter chose to publicly address the controversy and reaffirm his complete backing for the national side.

With India trailing 0-1 in the five-match T20I series after a disappointing defeat at Old Trafford, speculation surrounding Suryakumar’s absence had intensified online. However, the 35-year-old has now made it clear that the circulating statement attributed to him is entirely fabricated and does not reflect his views.

Suryakumar Yadav clears the air over fake viral statement

Breaking his silence ahead of the crucial third T20I at Trent Bridge, Suryakumar dismissed the rumours and appealed to supporters to avoid spreading misinformation. The veteran batter expressed his happiness for the current Indian squad and reiterated that his commitment to Indian cricket remains unchanged despite not being part of the ongoing tour.

“I’m very happy for the team and wish them nothing but the very best, always. I know the boys are giving it their all, and they will always have my full support,” said Suryakumar in a statement he shared on X.

He also directly addressed the statement that had gone viral across social media, clarifying that he neither issued nor approved any such message.

“I’ve also noticed a statement being circulated online that has been falsely attributed to me. I want to make it clear that I have not made or authorised any such statement. Please don’t believe or share unverified information. My support for Indian cricket, my teammates, and the game will always speak louder than words falsely attributed to me,” he added.

Surya backs India’s transition and next generation

Suryakumar’s response comes during a significant phase for Indian cricket, with the team management placing greater emphasis on youth as preparations begin for the next T20 World Cup cycle. His message was widely viewed as a strong endorsement of the ongoing rebuilding process rather than a criticism of the selectors or the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The experienced batter also extended his encouragement to the younger members of the squad, including teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Indian cricket. By publicly supporting the new-look team, Suryakumar effectively put an end to speculation that he was unhappy with the direction being taken by the selectors.

“A special word for Vaibhav – you’re at the start of what promises to be a very exciting journey. Enjoy your moment and keep making the country proud,” added the Pune-born cricketer.

The clarification arrives at an important moment for the visitors, who desperately need a victory in the third T20I to keep the five-match series alive. India were comprehensively outplayed in the opening game, increasing pressure on the young squad as they attempt to bounce back in Nottingham.
