Every cricketer dreams of representing India, but only a select few get the opportunity to wear the iconic blue jersey. For young batter Suryansh Shedge, that dream has now become a reality. The 23-year-old recently received his maiden India call-up for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, marking a significant milestone in his promising career.
Ahead of India’s tour, Shedge shared a heartfelt message after wearing the India jersey for the very first time. His emotional words quickly resonated with fans, highlighting the years of hard work, sacrifices, and dedication that finally culminated in this special moment.
Suryansh Shedge opens up after fulfilling childhood dream
In a heartfelt video shared by his IPL franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS) on social media, Shedge reflected on the sacrifices and hard work that went into earning his first India call-up. The young batter admitted that wearing the national jersey brought a completely different sense of motivation and pride, while also remembering the dreams he had as a child.
“Something for which I worked hard for, had sacrifices from friends and family, have all been for this [India] jersey. And now that I have worn this jersey, I am feeling a different kind of motivation and a sense of pride. I am sure the Suryansh, aged 10-12, would be smiling seeing me because a childhood dream has been achieved. Obviously, I will try to learn things and give my best for the country out in the middle,” Shedge said.
Reward for a remarkable breakthrough season
Shedge’s maiden India call-up comes on the back of an outstanding run across multiple competitions. Representing Punjab Kings in IPL 2026, the right-handed batter impressed with his fearless finishing ability, scoring 158 runs from seven matches at an excellent strike rate of 175.55. His campaign included a memorable maiden IPL half-century against Gujarat Titans (GT), showcasing his ability to perform under pressure.
The Mumbai batter also made a strong impression for India A during the Tri-Nation series in Sri Lanka. He accumulated 147 runs in five matches at an average of 36.75 and a strike rate of 120.49, with his highest score of 72 coming against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla.
Those consistent performances convinced the selectors to hand him his first India call-up after Nitish Kumar Reddy was ruled out through injury. Shedge is now part of India’s squad for the away T20I assignments against Ireland and England, where he will look to translate his domestic success onto the international stage and strengthen his case for a permanent place in the national setup.
