No. 1 seed and four-time champion Taylor Fritz withdrew from the Eastbourne Open on Wednesday.

Currently ranked No. 7 in the world, Fritz won the grass-court ATP 250 event in 2019, 2022, 2024 and 2025.

“Unfortunately, I have to withdraw from Eastbourne this year,” the 28-year-old Fritz posted on X. “I waited up until after the match warmup to make the decision today because I really did want to play. This is never an easy decision for me, especially when it involves a tournament that means so much to me. … While I know it’s the right call, it doesn’t make it any less disappointing.

“I’m very sorry to the fans, the tournament, and everyone who was looking forward to seeing me play. Thank you to Eastbourne for always making me feel so welcome, and I hope to be back on these courts again soon.”

Lucky loser Felix Gill, 24, took Fritz’s spot in the Eastbourne draw and faced fellow Brit Jan Choinski on Wednesday.

With Wimbledon just around the corner, Fritz has been battling knee and oblique injuries this season. He did not specify a particular reason for Wednesday’s withdrawal.
