Telus has announced it is investing $137.8 million in the city of Vancouver to boost productivity and support both the city and the broader Canadian economy.

The company notes that the money will go toward redeveloping its central office buildings into purpose-built rental units to address the increasing demand for housing, while also supporting the circular economy through Telus’ copper retirement program.

The money will also be used to continue local social impact through several local partners and programs, while increasing capacity and reliability across its wireless and wireline networks.

The money is part of Telus’ commitment to invest $15 billion across British Columbia alone, and a further $66 billion to Canada entirely by 2030. Focusing on British Columbia, the telecom giant says that over five years, it will expand Purefibre connectivity to more than 65 communities, advance wireless coverage with more than 45 new towers and upgrades to more than 400 sites, and strengthen AI infrastructure within the province, which includes a new facility in Kamloops and two future facilities in Vancouver.

Telus also announced another major network expansion at the beginning of the month, with $49.3 million provided to Telus through the Universal Broadband Fund.
