Yes, you read that right. Telus is texting select customers 50GB of free data.
If you get the text, Telus notes that the 50GB of bonus data is automatically applied to your account, for no additional cost. To add more good news, the bonus data will remain on your account as long as the plan is active.
While most users on the Reddit thread (shared by u/KevinHou_) were appreciative of the deal, many pointed out they would never use the full additional 50GB, especially if their data plan already comes with 100GB or more. One user, who also received the text, noted that there was no catch with this promotion and that they went from 125GB to 175GB.
Interestingly, the data might take time to apply to an account, as one user noted they got the text, but didn’t see any noticeable data boost.
Interestingly, both the original poster and another commenter noticed that if you have multiple plans, the data is shared between the two lines.
Now, I spotted that one user noted that Telus did add 75GB on top of the extra 50GB when they called for a plan change, but extra data offers like that are common when asking for a plan switch. It’s a pretty common tactic used in customer service to get customers to stay.
