Dinosaurs, a sharp-tongued chef and a battle with cancer – three very different stories come together in Episode 66 of The Chronicle Film Podcast!

Welcome, Chroniclers! This week, we’re bringing you three very different films, each hoping to become your next cinematic fix: David Robert Mitchell’s The End of Oak Street, Matt Johnson’s Tony, and George Jaques’ Sunny Dancer.

From a dinosaur-filled suburban nightmare to the early life of legendary chef and travel writer Anthony Bourdain, before heading to a coming-of-age story about friendship, cancer and a chemotherapy retreat, there’s plenty to discuss in this week’s episode.

🦖 The End of Oak Street

First up, Paul and Ibrahim take on David Robert Mitchell‘s The End of Oak Street, a fantasy adventure starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor as Denise and Gregg, parents of two children whose seemingly idyllic American suburban life takes a terrifying turn.

When dinosaurs suddenly appear on their street, the family finds itself fighting for survival. But does Mitchell’s latest blockbuster deliver the big-screen adventure audiences are looking for?

    👨‍🍳 Tony

Just when you thought we were done, Rosie joins us to discuss two smaller independent films released this week.

First up is Matt Johnson‘s Tony, a biographical drama inspired by the early life of legendary chef and travel writer Anthony Bourdain.

Dominic Sessa stars as a young Bourdain during what would become one of the most important years of his life and career in food. The film also features Leo Woodall, Emilia Jones and Antonio Banderas**.

    ☀️ Sunny Dancer

Finally, we discuss George Jaques’ Sunny Dancer, starring Bella Ramsey, Ruby Stokes, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Neil Patrick Harris and James Norton.

The film follows Ivy, a young girl who has battled cancer and attends a chemotherapy retreat, where she meets other young people facing similar experiences. But does Sunny Dancer handle its sensitive subject matter with the care and humanity it deserves?

Listen to Episode 66 of The Chronicle Film Podcast to hear our thoughts on all three films.

And don’t forget to check out our interview with director George Jaques for an even deeper look at Sunny Dancer.
