Estée Lauder Companies has shuttered its Bucharest global technology hub and laid off 150 employees, local Romanian publication Profit.ro reported on Tuesday.

The Bucharest hub, opened in April 2023, was the US conglomerate’s third technology-focused campus behind locations in New York and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and was designed to enhance the company’s digital and technological capabilities. Romania was selected due to the country’s positioning as a global leader in IT talent, ranking first in Europe and sixth globally as of 2023. No layoffs have been announced in the larger Estée Lauder Bucharest office, which opened in 2021.

The Estée Lauder Companies did not return request for comment.

New Estée Lauder CEO Stéphane de La Faverie originally announced the company’s Beauty Turnaround restructuring plan in February 2025, revealing plans to lay off up to 7,000 employees or around 11 percent of its workforce, in an effort to reduce operating costs in the wake of a disappointing year of sales. In August, the company confirmed it had laid off 3,200 employees globally.

Estée Lauder Is Growing Again. Now Comes the Hard Part.

The US giant handily beat expectations and its own guidance in its latest earnings, but softness in the US and its hair and makeup businesses show it can’t take its foot off the gas yet.
