“The View” co-host Ana Navarro said Thursday she hopes the show’s upcoming interview with Vice President JD Vance focuses on substantive policy issues rather than becoming a promotional vehicle for his new book.

Navarro made the comments on the show’s “Behind the Table” podcast, where producer Brian Teta asked her about the booking. She said she wasn’t surprised Mr. Vance agreed to appear, citing “The View’s” track record of driving book sales.

“I think that everybody, including Republicans, know that at ’The View,’ we are really good at selling books,” she said. “I want to ask him questions about Epstein. I want to ask him questions where he — where there’s several issues where there’s sunlight between him and Donald Trump, right?”

Navarro said she intends to press Mr. Vance on military conflicts, adding that he “seems to be a lot more tuned into the MAGA manosphere than Trump is.”

But she added: “I hope we get to have a constructive conversation about the issues that Americans care about and are on Americans’ minds and that it doesn’t turn into some free-for-all for the sake of creating a moment for him so that he can go out and sell books, which is what often happens with Republicans.”

Mr. Vance is scheduled to appear on Tuesday to promote his new book, “Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.” All six co-hosts — Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ms. Navarro — are expected to be in studio for what would be his first appearance on the program. He would be the third sitting vice president and the first sitting Republican vice president to appear on the show.

The booking comes as ABC is locked in a dispute with the Trump administration over broadcast license renewals for eight ABC television stations. The Federal Communications Commission, led by Chairman Brendan Carr, ordered Disney to file for renewals ahead of schedule; Disney said its applications were submitted “under protest in response to an unlawful, arbitrary, and unconstitutional order.” The FCC has also opened a separate investigation into whether “The View” violated equal-time rules after Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico appeared on the program in February.

According to a Media Research Center study, “The View” featured 341 guests in 2025, with only two identifying as conservative and 128 as liberal.
