Things got complicated during a recent episode of The View. A few faces were missing while a few unexpected co-hosts also appeared. Meanwhile, Whoopi Goldberg appeared to be missing, but fans still got to see her during the broadcast. As things started out, a surprising explanation was given for just what was going on.
Three Co-Hosts Were Missing From The View, With Two Surprising Faces At The Desk
On July 6, The View returned from its Fourth of July break, airing reruns over the past few days. In honor of the holiday, various episodes played. These included political figures, like JD Vance’s recent appearance on the show.
However, fans were in for quite a shock when the show returned with its newest episode. Only four co-hosts were sitting at the table.
Whoopi Goldberg, Ana Navarro, and Sara Haines were all missing from the desk. Meanwhile, Joy Behar appeared alongside Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sunny Hostin, and last-minute guest host Michelle Buteau.
Behar’s appearance also likely came as a surprise for many fans, as she normally doesn’t appear during the Monday episodes. Notably, it was Behar who explained what was going on. All three of the absences were not planned and were due to weather-related issues. In fact, one story even involved a national disaster.
Navarro was stranded in Miami due to the weather, while Haines was dealing with “storm damage” that hit on July 5.
Viewers Still Got To See Whoopi Goldberg, As She Explained The Situation In A Video
However, for many, it was Goldberg’s story that was the most shocking. As Behar explained, she was stranded in Italy after Europe’s largest volcano, Mount Etna, erupted.
While Goldberg didn’t appear in the studio, fans still got to see her in a video. Explaining why she couldn’t appear on the show after the holiday weekend, she shared, “I am in Sicily, and Mount Etna, one of our active volcanoes here in Italy, decided to go off today. We have spent most of the day trying to get back to the United States. All of the airports are closed here.”

Goldberg also promised that she would be back as soon as possible. She then joked, “I know that we got all kinds of stories about our different vacations. Well, I think my story just takes the cake. A volcano ate my homework.”
Behar explained that Buteau was originally meant to appear as a guest during the episode. However, the circumstances saw her get promoted to host at the last minute. At the time, it wasn’t confirmed just when the other co-hosts would return.
