Whoopi Goldberg has reached a lot of milestones in her career. She’s a rare EGOT winner, nabbing an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony. But at 70, she’s nowhere near done. The View host fulfilled her dream to be a soap star last year. Now she announced another exciting career change. Keep reading to find out more.
Whoopi Goldberg Claims She Can’t Afford To Retire Despite Massive Net Worth
Whoopi Goldberg has graced movie screens since her film debut in The Color Purple in 1985. She’s done it all in the last four decades, including fulfilling her dream of being a soap star. But her most familiar role these days is as moderator on The View.
She joined the ABC talk show in 2007 after Rosie O’Donnell left. She’s the longest-running cast member, followed closely by Joy Behar, 83. Despite their advanced ages, neither plans to retire anytime soon. Joy Behar pointed out that entertainers never truly retire. Whoopi Goldberg, however, claims she can’t afford to.
But her net worth is estimated online at $20 million. She reportedly earns $8 million a year on The View, in addition to her acting roles. With retirement off the table, Whoopi Goldberg does her best to stay booked and busy. She announced recently that a documentary is in the works about her life. She made an even more exciting career change announcement this week on The View.

The View Host Announces Exciting Career Change
Whoopi Goldberg has no plans to retire, no matter how much some viewers think it’s time. In fact, instead of retiring, she’s adding another entry into her already stacked resume. The View host is already a published author of several memoirs and children’s books. But now she’s on the other side of it as a publisher.
She announced this week that she’s getting her own imprint in partnership with Blackstone. WhoopInk will focus on “fresh, diverse new talent.” Whoopi Goldberg will reportedly be involved in every step of publication, from the cover design to promoting the releases.
This isn’t just a vanity project for The View host. She holds an honorary PhD in Literature from New York University, among other honorary degrees. Whoopi Goldberg dropped out of school when she was a teenager due to undiagnosed dyslexia.
Now, she’s giving back to the community by spotlighting diverse voices. “I am personally looking forward to finding new authors, working with established authors, and bringing influential voices into this curated imprint,” she said in a statement. Whoopi Goldberg isn’t the only talk show host involved in book publication. Today Show host Jenna Bush Hager launched her Thousand Voices imprint in January 2025.
Whoopi Goldberg didn’t share an expected release date for the first book from her new imprint. But we can’t wait to read it! Share your reaction to her exciting career change in the comments.
