The View Hosts Discuss Lawsuit Over Common Vacation Pet Peeve
The View hosts often debate the latest political news during the show’s “Hot Topics” segment. But once in a while, Whoopi Goldberg, who serves as moderator, brings a non-political topic to the table. The actress brought up a surprising legal case on the May 13 episode. A vacationer successfully sued a resort after not being able to find available pool lounge chairs.
A German tourist vacationing in Greece with his family sued the resort over other guests placing towels on pool chairs to reserve them. Reserving chairs was against the resort’s policy, but wasn’t enforced. The tourist took the matter to court and won a small sum. Click here to read more about the shocking court battle.
Reserving lounge chairs with towels and other belongings is common at resorts, on cruises, and even at the local public pool. And it goes beyond chairs. In some cities, people use cones to reserve street parking spaces.
Whoopi Goldberg Calls Out Rude Church Behavior
Alyssa Farah Griffin admitted during the discussion to putting her belongings on the seat next to her on the train so no one would sit there. Sara Haines went on a huge rant about people using towels to reserve pool chairs, forcing her kids to sit on the hot cement. Joy Behar jokingly asked if she quit the show, but placed a towel on her chair, would she be able to come back and reclaim her chair?
Whoopi Goldberg took the discussion in a different direction by bringing up saving seats in church. “To me, here’s the biggest reason you don’t want to do that, is because you want people to be on time. You don’t want them to start thinking, oh, somebody’s going to hold this for me, and you don’t have to work on getting your behind out of there to get there on time. Don’t do that!” she said.
Whether it’s at church or at a pool, Whoopi Goldberg said she has no problem moving someone’s belongings to take an empty chair. “If you’re at a place and you see all these empty seats, I’m telling you now, if you come down, I’m gonna be in your chair, because I paid just like you paid,” she said before leaning back to show how she would be reclining on after moving the towel or purse.
Reserving chairs in public spaces has become increasingly common. However, the backlash against it has also increased. In some cases, it has led to physical altercations. But Whoopi Goldberg warned against that, making it clear that she hits back.
