Michael Jackson‘s official account marked his 17th death anniversary on Wednesday with a tribute spanning five of his defining roles: philanthropist, songwriter, producer, vocalist, and dancer.
The Instagram post called him “the world’s greatest entertainer” and invoked his widely recognized title, the King of Pop. It closed with a question directed at followers: “How will you honor his legacy today?” The post drew more than 833,000 likes.
Today is the 17th anniversary of Jackson’s death. He died in Los Angeles on June 25, 2009, at age 50. His personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. An investigation determined that a lethal dose of the anesthetic propofol caused cardiac arrest. Jackson had been in rehearsals for a planned 50-date London residency called This Is It. He never performed a single show.
