Tiger Woods of Jupiter Links GC tees off during match against Los Angeles Golf Club during the TGL finals at SoFi Center on March 24, 2026, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Tiger Woods has officially thrown his name into the mix for the 46th U.S. Senior Open in early July though it’s not known if the 15-time major champion actually will compete in the tournament.

“Tiger has entered the championship, simply to ensure eligibility, but will not make a decision about playing until a later date,” a USGA spokesperson said Friday, per multiple media outlets.

Speculation has run rampant about Woods’ availability for the Masters on April 9-12 due to his ongoing health concerns. The five-time champion at Augusta National has not played in an official event since July of 2024. However, he participated in the final earlier this week for TGL, the 3-on-3 indoor golf league founded by Woods and Rory McIlroy.

President Donald Trump weighed in on his thoughts on Woods’ availability for the Masters, telling Fox News in a phone interview Thursday that “he will be there, but he won’t be playing in it.” Trump did not say what led him to believe this about Woods’ status for the Masters.

Woods, 50, is an 82-time winner on the PGA Tour, tied for the all-time lead with Sam Snead. The World Golf Hall of Famer won his 15th and most recent grand slam title at the 2019 Masters.

The U.S. Senior Open is set for July 2-5 at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio.
