Craig Melvin recently took a break from Today. However, he recently took to social media to give fans a peek at what he’s been up to in the meantime. However, fans have since shared mixed reactions to the post.
Craig Melvin, As Well As One Of His Co-Stars, Was Off This Week From Today
Melvin first joined Today in 2011, initially as a weekend contributor. Back in January 2025, he took on the role of permanent co-anchor for the first and second hours.
Melvin recently took a bit of a break from his role on Today, with him being absent from the show at the start of the week. He is currently enjoying a summer vacation with his family.
Around this time, Savannah Guthrie has also been absent from the show this week, leaving on Tuesday to work on NBC’s upcoming Wordle game show. Sheinelle Jones and Willie Geist have been filling in for Melvin and Guthrie on the show.
In the meantime, Melvin took to Instagram to share an update with fans. In a recent post, he shared, “Out of office… Nothing like hanging with the family. Hope you’re enjoying this summer too.”

Following the classic trend, Melvin shared a pic of his feet in sandals while relaxing on the beach. A towel, waves, and a whole lot of sand could be seen stretched out before him.
Melvin’s co-star, Carson Daly, commented on the post, notably recognizing the style of footwear Melvin was wearing. He wrote, “At least you got the flip flop right! @olukai is the greatest ever. (Not paid to say that!) Enjoy your break, my man.” In response to Daly’s comment, Shop Today executive editor Adrianna Barrionuevo Brach also wrote, “@carsondaly impressed with your shopping game!! (And Craig’s!)”
Taking to the comments, fans shared mixed reactions to the post. Quite a few poked fun at the newscaster sharing a pic of his feet on social media. A few even warned to be wary of these things in today’s social media climate. Some comments included:
