Jenna Bush Hager has worked with a number of outlets over the years, most famously through her work with Today. Thanks to this, she has offered many personal shares throughout the years, both on and off the show. Recently, she touched on an issue she’s passionate about impacting schools. This later inspired further discussions on Today.

Jenna Bush Hager Recently Appeared On The Las Culturistas Podcast

Jenna is the daughter of the 43rd U.S. president, George W. Bush. Over the years, she has pursued a career in broadcast journalism, notably first becoming a contributor on Today in 2009.

Since then, Jenna has served as a co-host on the show’s fourth hour, which recently became Today with Jenna & Sheinelle since she was joined by Sheinelle Jones. During a recent podcast appearance, Jenna opened up about an issue impacting schools.

While appearing on an episode of Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers‘ Las Culturistas podcast, Jenna opened up about banning books, especially in libraries. During the show’s “I don’t think so, honey” segment, she shared, “I don’t think so, honey: why are we banning all these books, y’all? Why are we banning the Wicked book? Why are we banning To Kill a Mockingbird?”

“I posted a picture — I don’t think so, honey — of my daughter reading The Summer I Turned Pretty. And you know what people said to me? They shamed me. I don’t think so, honey.”

Jenna felt that there was a bit of a double standard in practice. Children had greater access to the internet than they do to the written page. She continued, “Guess whose job it is to make sure it’s appropriate for your children? The librarians. They are trained.”

Jenna Continued The Conversation With Sheinelle Jones On Today

Throughout her career, fans have become well aware of Jenna’s love of books. In addition to being a writer herself, she also introduced her own book club, “Read with Jenna,” through Today.

As she finished her statement to Yang and Rogers, Jenna concluded, “I want my kid to read. Want to know why? Books start conversations. Know what we’re not having enough of in this country? Conversations. I don’t think so, honey!”

Following the conversation on the podcast, Jenna continued the conversation with Sheinelle Jones on Today. At the time, Jenna expressed that it is the responsibility of the parents to decide what is and isn’t appropriate for kids. As she shared, “We have to take responsibility for our kids at home.”
