Today Show anchor Sheinelle Jones has been through the wringer in her life, and many fans had no idea whether she would return to work. Yet, she persevered, and now she is Jenna Bush Hager’s fourth-hour co-host. Another person in the Today family who is a vital part of Sheinelle’s life is Savannah Guthrie. She has nothing but love and praise for her “sister,” and she is more than happy to celebrate her whenever she can.
Sheinelle Jones Praises ‘Sister’ Savannah
When Sheinelle Jones took a leave of absence from the Today Show, viewers were concerned. They knew that she had a personal issue to contend with, but were unsure what was going on. Ultimately, it was revealed that her husband of seventeen years, Uche Ojeh, had cancer. He had been suffering from glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, and sadly passed away. Uche left behind Sheinelle and three children, which broke her heart. However, she did return to her job and had a lot of love and support waiting for her.
The one person that she credits for being there all the time for her and her family was Savannah Guthrie. Her co-host was always by her side as well as there for her three children, Kayin, Clara, and Uche, amid the tragic death. Since Savannah was just sixteen when her father passed away, she was able to help the kids deal with their feelings and the loss:
“She took her pain from losing her father at a young age, and not only did she help me and lift me up, but she has been such a gift to my kids.”
That was why Sheinelle Jones was so happy to have Savannah Guthrie return to the Today Show after her mother, Nancy, went missing on February 1st, 2026. She wanted to give back to her close friend what Savannah had given to all of her co-hosts:
“It’s our turn to wrap our arms around her. She is my sister. Everyone knows how she was there for me at the lowest moment of my life. What people don’t know, what a lot of people don’t realize, is that behind the scenes, Savannah is our glue. We call her our light.”
Sheinelle Jones also noted that Savannah is the person they can count on to call them first when anything goes wrong. That is just a testament to the kind of friend she is and how she always thinks of everyone else, aside from herself. As Hoda Kotb shared, and Sheinelle echoed, they want to hold Savannah as tight as they can.
Back For Good?
Savannah Guthrie spent almost two months in Tucson, Arizona. She and her siblings were actively looking for their missing mother. However, she knew the time had come to return to the Today Show. This has been a blessing for her co-hosts, who love and desperately miss her. After hearing about how much Sheinelle Jones adores Savannah, fans felt that the mommy anchors should have their own show. Whether or not that would be a hit is yet to be seen, but the amazing friendships are absolutely beautiful.
