When Sheinelle Jones was promoted to Jenna Bush Hager’s co-host, she probably didn’t expect it to lead to a serious injury. The Today Show host opened up about the painful situation on Tuesday’s episode. Keep reading to find out what happened and if she will be okay.
Today Host Sheinelle Jones Sustains Painful Injury On Air
Sheinelle Jones missed Monday’s episode of Jenna & Sheinelle. Carson Daly stepped in for the day. But she was back on Tuesday, May 19. She confessed at the start of the show that she was in terrible pain. The morning host revealed she was suffering from an injury that happened live on the air last week.
Zara Larsson kicked off the Today Show‘s summer Citi Concert series. She invited Sheinelle Jones on stage with her during “Lush Life.” They performed the viral choreographed routine to the hit song. While Sheinelle Jones did great and hit every step, she paid for it later.
She revealed major shoulder pain on Tuesday’s episode. Sheinelle Jones is suffering from what she self-diagnosed as “frozen shoulder.” She reflected that the energetic dance moves likely caused the injury. “I woke up yesterday with — so I’ve self-diagnosed myself, I don’t know if this is the official diagnosis — frozen shoulder,” she told Jenna Bush Hager.
Sheinelle Jones admitted that she needed help getting dressed for the show. “Putting this dress on today, Sara had to help me upstairs — our friend in the wardrobe department. I stood still and it was a whole situation to put this dress on today.”
Jenna Bush Hager joked that Zara Larsson and Sheinelle Jones both suffered during the performance. “I think she broke her shoe, and you broke your shoulder,” she said, referring to the singer breaking a heel while performing.

Sheinelle Jones, 48, admitted this wasn’t the first time she suffered from the injury. “This is the third time in six years this has happened to me. You know when I got it the last time? Two days before I danced with Janet Jackson. And I ended up getting a cortisone shot back there so I could dance.”
The Today Show host joined her idol, Janet Jackson, on stage during the “Together Again” tour in 2023 at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida. She’s also in the process of moving, which likely made the injury even worse.
See Her Dance Moves
Sheinelle Jones has mentioned her love of dance several times on the NBC morning program. Taking the stage next to Janet Jackson was one of her bucket list items. She eagerly joined Zara Larsson during the Citi Concert series and kept in sync throughout the whole routine.

Sheinelle Jones put on a great performance but sustained a painful injury while doing it. She admitted to Jenna Bush Hager that the injury that she was going to listen to her body and “slow down” after her shoulder heals.
