Tom Cruise Leaves Action Behind For New Movie
Tom Cruise has appeared in nearly 50 movies in his decades-long career. He starred in a few romcoms, but the majority of his movies have been action movies. He recently wrapped up the Mission Impossible franchise with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The eighth movie left it open for more, but at 63, Tom Cruise can no longer safely push the limits of doing his own stunts.
That may be why his next movie is a huge departure for him. He next stars in the comedy Digger. According to the synopsis, he plays Digger Rockwell, an aging oil baron on a mission to save the world after creating an environmental disaster. The movie comes out in October 2026. Not only is the movie different than his usual, but Tom Cruise looks completely unrecognizable in the role of Digger.
Fans Stunned By His Shocking Unrecognizable Look
Tom Cruise attended CinemaCon this week. The movie production festival is the place to debut trailers for upcoming movies to garner early interest. The actor’s ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, attended the event as well to promote the upcoming Practical Magic sequel.
The Digger trailer was brief, but revealed the first look at Tom Cruise’s shocking transformation for the role. He sported gray hair and wrinkles. The actor wrote a prosthetic to give his fit physique a beer belly. Not since his surprise appearance in Tropic Thunder has Tom Cruise undergone such a shocking transformation.
Oscar Buzz Around Digger
Tom Cruise and filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu both spoke at CinemaCon. “The movie is wild, it’s funny and I can’t wait for you all to see it,” Tom Cruise told the audience about Digger. The movie is already getting Oscar buzz. Fans took to Reddit to discuss the upcoming flick.
