The United States is set to host all sorts of celebrations across the country. This even includes a UFC fight right on the White House’s South Lawn. However, one figure warned that there could be three things that could cause trouble for the event. That said, another figure took a different view of things.
President Donald Trump’s ‘UFC Freedom 250’ Is Set To Honor Two Different Events
President Donald Trump is set to host a historic mixed martial arts event, “UFC Freedom 250” on the South Lawn of the White House. At this time, the event is set to serve a dual purpose.
As the event’s name suggests, it serves as a reference to the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence, even taking place on Flag Day. Country singer Zac Brown is even expected to perform the U.S. national anthem at the event. In addition, its June 14th date coincides with the president’s own 80th birthday.
Recently, one figure behind the scenes warned that things might not go as planned. Dana White, the president and chief executive officer of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, recently spoke about the upcoming event with The Hollywood Reporter.
According to White, Trump came up with the idea while attending UFC 309, a few weeks after the 2024 presidential election. White shared that Trump, an old friend of his, “leaned over to me and says, ‘We should do a fight at the White House.’ I said, ‘Yes, we should.’ I didn’t know what he meant … I was thinking maybe there’s some room that he’s thinking about where we’d have it. He’s like, ‘No, we’re gonna do it outside on the South Lawn.’”
The UFC’s Dana White Looked Back At A Rose Garden Dinner & Warned The Event Could Face Similar Issues
White also recalled attending a dinner in the Rose Garden recently. During this event, his eyes were opened to problems the upcoming event could face, especially as it will be hosted outdoors.
According to White, “The three big problems, as far as I am seeing right now, are rain, lightning and a ton of bugs,” recalling “clusters” of black gnats. He continued, “As soon as I left the White House, I called my head of production Craig [Borsari], and said the black fly experience that I just had is brutal.”

White continued, “So imagine this massive, powerful claw, and the lights that are going to come with it, you’re going to have gnats, moths, maybe bats. I don’t know what the hell’s going to show up. But you know these are all the things that you have to think of leading up to this thing.” It was also noted that, as the year starts to enter into the summer months, things could even get too hot for fighters.
Podcaster Joe Rogan will also be working the event. On his end, he actually thinks the unpredictable weather could make the event exciting. He shared, “It’s going to be a spectacle. Whether I was there or not, I would be watching, 100 percent. I think it’s awesome that Trump, this is one of the things that I like about him. He’s like, ‘Fuck it. Let’s do it.’ He puts on cage fights on the White House lawn. That’s nuts. He’s fearless.”
