Virgil van Dijk has admitted Alisson Becker’s potential departure would be a huge loss for Liverpool, though the defender insists there is no decision yet on the goalkeeper’s future.
Alisson, currently sidelined with a muscle issue, remains under contract at Anfield until 2027 after the club triggered a one-year extension earlier this year.
Despite that, the Brazil international has been linked with a move away this summer, with Juventus among those reportedly interested in the Premier League star.
“Listen, there is always going to be a day where you – including myself – will go,” Van Dijk said when asked about the situation.
“But if it’s going to happen – and I have no idea about it and I don’t think, at this point, he has an idea about it – then we will, as a club, adapt to that.”
Alisson a Liverpool legend
“We have been through everything together, positive things and some negative things unfortunately as well, so it would definitely be a big blow and a miss,” Van Dijk added.
“He’s very important for me as one of the leaders in the team and I think he is very important on the pitch because I think he is one of the best – in my opinion the best – goalkeeper in the world.”
Liverpool are currently focused on the final stretch of the season, with Alisson working towards a return as the team look to finish strongly.
“He’s trying to be back as soon as possible to help us for the last four games and that’s our main focus,” Van Dijk added.
Liverpool transfer uncertainty
While rumours continue to circulate about the departure of several key figures, Van Dijk stressed that attention within the squad remains on qualifying for the Champions League rather than potential summer changes.
“Whatever happens after that is not something you should ask me,” he said.
“Would I love him to stay? Of course, there’s no about that.
“Everyone can feel a certain way about it. There are rumours but if there is anything concrete then we will all find out but, for me, I’m never worried.”
