Current events often end up as “hot topics” on The View. However, the co-hosts recently weighed in on the future. Recently, while discussing the upcoming 2028 election, Joy Behar didn’t think one figure would work out: former Vice President Kamala Harris.
One Co-Host On The View Thought That Kamala Harris Would Be The Most Likely Democratic Nominee
Harris served as the 49th vice president of the United States under President Joe Biden. Following this, she was the party’s nominee in the 2024 presidential election, after Biden himself withdrew from the race.
The future of Harris’ political career recently became a topic of discussion on The View. This came out as the co-hosts discussed possible candidates during the 2028 election.
During the show, Alyssa Farah Griffin felt that Harris could have a major role in the upcoming election. She shared, “My hot take… the most likely person to be the Democratic nominee is Kamala Harris. In every poll, she is still — it’s usually her and Gavin Newsom neck and neck.”
However, Behar interrupted, announcing her own list of choices for the 2028 Democratic nominee. She shared, “I have a better list. I love her, she was great, but she didn’t win one time. What makes you think she’s going to win again?” This was in reference to Harris losing in swing states during the 2024 election against President Donald Trump.
Joy Behar’s Co-Hosts Also Shared Mixed Reactions To Her Arguments
Griffin disagreed, feeling that Harris still had name recognition and had also raised a significant amount of money. However, Behar listed, “I like Jon Ossoff, he’s 39 years old. I like Josh Shapiro, 53 years old. Gavin Newsom, 58, and JB Pritzker, 61.”
For her part, Sara Haines took issue with Behar’s concern over identity politics. She shared, “I am not going to break the party down based on ‘they won’t vote for a gay White man/woman.’ I think the identity reduces the charisma of the character, the person in front of us. Because we can’t…”

Behar interrupted, chiming in “You’re not in reality, I don’t think that’s reality.” Among her co-hosts, Sunny Hostin appeared to agree with Behar’s sentiments, noting that one change does not always become permanent. She shared, “Yeah, and you know what? And after President Obama, you know what we got? We got Trump. We got a whitelash against a Black President.”
Hostin continued, “And in this country, I wish this country, after 250 years, were beyond identity, but we are not, and we need to be realistic, and, as the Democratic Party, we need to win. We need to get this country back on track.”
Behar continued, “Maybe I’m too old at this point for this conversation, but I’ve been watching this country for a long time, and you’ve got to be in reality. These past few years that Trump has been in office, he’s practically destroying democracy. This is an emergency we’re in! We can’t play around.”
For her part, Harris has been on The View multiple times. She appeared in October 2024 while she was the Democratic presidential nominee. She later returned in 2025 to discuss her memoir, 107 Days.
