West Indies have unveiled their squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which marks the beginning of an important phase in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Led by Roston Chase, the Caribbean side will be aiming to bounce back strongly in red-ball cricket after enduring a difficult period in the format over the last couple of years.

The series, scheduled to begin on June 25, presents an opportunity for the hosts to build momentum at home against a Sri Lankan side that recently enjoyed success in the Caribbean during the white-ball leg of the tour. The selectors have rewarded strong domestic performances while also welcoming back several experienced campaigners who missed previous assignments due to injuries.

Joshua Da Silva and Amir Jangoo earn recalls after impressive domestic campaigns

The biggest talking points from the squad announcement are the returns of wicketkeeper-batter Joshua Da Silva and top-order batter Amir Jangoo. Both players forced their way back into the national side following outstanding performances in the recently concluded West Indies Championship. Da Silva finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer, amassing 413 runs at an average of 59 while captaining Trinidad & Tobago to the championship title. His leadership qualities and experience are expected to add stability to the middle order.

Jangoo was equally impressive, ending the competition as the second-highest run-getter with 411 runs at an exceptional average of 68.50. His consistent performances have earned him another opportunity to establish himself in the Test setup. The recalls highlight the selectors’ willingness to reward players who perform consistently in domestic cricket, while also strengthening the batting depth ahead of a challenging series.

Fast-bowling attack receives major boost ahead of Sri Lanka challenge

West Indies have also been handed a significant boost in the pace department with the returns of Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph. Both fast bowlers missed the tours of India and New Zealand in 2025 due to injury concerns, but are now fit and available for selection. Their return is expected to ease the workload on Jayden Seales, who has carried the responsibility of leading the pace attack in recent months. The trio could form a formidable fast-bowling unit for the opening Test in Antigua.

Shamar heads into the series brimming with confidence after starring in West Indies’ recent T20I series victory over Sri Lanka. The speedster produced career-best figures of 5 for 33 in the deciding third T20I, playing a crucial role in securing a dramatic five-wicket victory.

Head coach Darren Sammy expressed confidence in the squad and emphasized the importance of continuing the team’s development in the longest format. He stated that the players have been putting in the hard work during the ongoing training camp and are eager to deliver strong performances for supporters across the Caribbean.

West Indies squad for Test series against Sri Lanka: Roston Chase (captain), Jomel Warrican (vice-captain), John Campbell, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Joshua Da Silva (wk), Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, Shai Hope, Amir Jangoo, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Anderson Phillip, Kemar Roach, and Jayden Seales.
