Wheel of Fortune calls itself “America’s Favorite Game,” but some viewers are calling it ‘America’s Most Frustrating Game” after a confusing puzzle. Keep reading to find out more about the puzzle fans called out for being “bogus.”
Wheel Of Fortune Puzzle Stumps Contestant, Viewers At Home
Many people in the U.S. spend time relaxing after dinner by watching popular game shows Jeopardy! or Wheel of Fortune. Both shows have been on for decades and underwent hosting changes amid Alex Trebek’s death and Pat Sajak’s retirement. But what never changes is the audience’s passionate attempt to solve all the puzzles along with the contestants.
One recent contestant was on the cusp of winning the Bonus Round after dominating the early rounds. However, they were stumped by the Bonus Round puzzle, leaving with a cash prize, but not the big prize.
Reigning champion Jim Spallina returned to Wheel of Fortune on April 9 for another game. While he held his own, it was Ally Metcalf from Memphis, Texas, who went to the Bonus Round after winning $19,200 in the earlier rounds. She chose “People” as her Bonus Round category.
She chose M, D, P, and A, and the board showed: “C _ _ MM _ _ _DD_ES.” Unfortunately, time ran out before she could figure out the answer was “Chummy Buddies.”
Game Show Fans Call Out ‘Bogus’ Puzzle
She wasn’t the only one stumped. Viewers took to Reddit to react to the “bogus” puzzle. One viewer even called “chummy” an “old-timey” word. Check out some of the other complaints:

- “I realize some of the puzzles are hard…but MOST contestants pick the same 3 constonants & same vowel. I’m sure the show realizes this when they pick puzzles!!”
- “I hate it. So stupid. Let’s face it. It’s 95% luck. It’s not Jeopardy which requires talent.”
- “That bonus puzzle, wtf man?”
- “Seriously!! Chummy buddies?! Who would ever think of that?”
- “Another one of those puzzles where they put some words together, but nobody ever actually says those words together. That puzzle was pretty bogus.”
The contestant still walked away with cash, but didn’t win the new car.
Vanna White Shares What She Sees On Stage
Vanna White is a national treasure. She’s been revealing letters on Wheel of Fortune for over 40 years. She finally gave fans what they’ve been begging for: a glimpse at what she sees while filming the show.
The beloved hostess donned “Vanna Vision” glasses on a recent episode. She gave viewers a glimpse at her dressing room, including her sparkly wardrobe and shoes. Once she was on set, viewers got a close-up look at how she touches each letter to light it up. Vanna White stopped physically turning each letter almost 30 years ago. The board went digital in 1997.
While fans loved to see Vanna White’s view, now they want Ryan Seacrest to wear the glasses so they can see his view. Tell us in the comments if you think “Chummy Buddies” was a “bogus” puzzle.
