Canadian Olympic gold medalist Erica Wiebe of Stittsville, Ontario will be the flag bearer for Canada at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland according to CBC Sports on Tuesday. The Commonwealth Games take place from July 23 to August 2.

Wiebe won an Olympic gold medal for Canada in women’s wrestling in the women’s 75 kilogram weight class at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She became the third Canadian all-time to win Olympic gold in wrestling. She followed Daniel Igali of Vancouver, British Columbia, who won gold in the men’s 69 kilogram weight class at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, and Carol Huynh of Hazelton, British Columbia, who won gold in the women’s 48 kilogram weight class at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

In addition to her Olympic gold medal, Wiebe won two gold medals for Canada in women’s wrestling at the Commonwealth Games. Her gold medals came at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. The gold medal medal in Glasgow came in the women’s 75 kilogram weight class, where Wiebe beat Annabelle Ali of Cameroon in the final. The gold medal in Gold Coast came in the women’s 76 kilogram weight class, where she beat Blessing Onyebuchi of Nigeria in the final.
