The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have kept their roster the same for Friday night’s game against the Edmonton Elks, save for one change. The team issued its official depth chart on Thursday morning.
Canadian defensive back Ethan Ball has been placed on the six-game injured list with an Achilles injury that’s expected to be season-ending. The Regina native suffered the injury during last week’s win over the Ottawa Redblacks.
The 24-year-old was a sixth-round pick in the 2025 CFL Draft out of the University of Calgary. He has recorded one defensive tackle and 10 special teams tackles over 16 regular-season CFL games.
In a corresponding move, Winnipeg has promoted Canadian linebacker Lane Novak to the active roster. The six-foot-one, 225-pound defender played two regular-season games earlier this year but did not record a statistic.
The 24-year-old native of Balgonie, Sask. was a fifth-round pick in the 2025 CFL Draft out of the University of Saskatchewan. He played five regular-season games as a rookie and recorded three special teams tackles before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
The rest of Winnipeg’s lineup remains unchanged from last week’s win over the Ottawa Redblacks. The team has only six players on injured reserve, which is the smallest number in the CFL.
Brady Oliveira did not practice this week due to an ankle injury, though head coach Mike O’Shea indicated that he will play.
The Blue Bombers lost to Edmonton by a score of 23-18 in Week 4. Winnipeg fumbled the ball five times in the loss, losing three of them. It was Edmonton’s first win at Princess Auto Stadium since 2018.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (5-4) will visit the Edmonton Elks (7-3) at Commonwealth Stadium on Friday, August 21 with kickoff scheduled for 9:30 p.m. EDT. The Blue Bombers are coming off a 33-21 win over the Ottawa Redblacks, while the Elks blasted the Toronto Argonauts by a score of 42-12.
The weather forecast in Edmonton calls for 26 degrees and sun. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 680 CJOB in Winnipeg or 880 CHED in Edmonton.
