Donald Trump issued a lengthy statement clarifying his position on Iran policy, directly addressing claims about Israeli influence on his foreign policy decisions.

The former president and 2024 presidential candidate took to social media to set the record straight about his Iran stance. He explained his position in characteristically direct terms: “Israel never talked me into the war with Iran, the results of Oct. 7th, added to my lifelong opinion that IRAN CAN NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON, did.”

Trump’s reference to October 7th points to the Hamas attack on Israel that sparked the current Middle East conflict. For Trump, those events apparently reinforced long-held views about Iran’s role in regional instability.

The statement came as part of a broader critique of media coverage and polling. Trump didn’t hold back in his assessment of news coverage, claiming: “I watch and read the FAKE NEWS Pundits and Polls in total disbelief. 90% of what they say are lies and made up stories, and the polls are rigged, much as the 2020 Presidential Election was rigged.”

Those are familiar themes for Trump, who’s consistently challenged both media reporting and polling data throughout his political career. He’s maintained these positions even as he campaigns for another term in the White House.

But Trump didn’t stop at criticism. He offered his own prediction about Iran’s future, suggesting major changes ahead for the country. According to Trump: “Just like the results in Venezuela, which the media doesn’t like talking about, the results in Iran will be amazing.”

He went further, explicitly calling for regime change in Iran. Trump wrote: “And if Iran’s new leaders (Regime Change!) are smart, Iran can have a great and prosperous future!”

That’s a significant foreign policy position. Trump is essentially predicting that Iran’s current government will be replaced and suggesting that new leadership could transform the country’s relationship with the international community.

The Breaking911 tweet sharing Trump’s remarks drew hundreds of likes and dozens of retweets, showing continued engagement with his foreign policy positions among his supporters.

Trump’s Iran stance has been consistent throughout his political career. During his presidency, he withdrew the United States from the Iran nuclear deal and imposed tough economic sanctions on the country. He’s maintained that Iran poses a serious threat to regional stability and American interests.

The October 7th reference adds a new dimension to his Iran policy framework. By tying his position to recent events in the Middle East, Trump is connecting current headlines to his broader foreign policy philosophy.

His comments also reflect ongoing tensions between his approach and that of other political figures who might take different positions on Iran engagement. Trump’s statement makes clear he sees no room for compromise on Iranian nuclear capabilities.

The timing of these remarks is noteworthy given the current presidential campaign cycle. Foreign policy positions often become central issues in presidential races, and Trump is clearly staking out his territory on Middle East policy.

For voters trying to understand where Trump stands on Iran, this statement provides a clear picture. He’s opposed to Iranian nuclear weapons, skeptical of current regime stability, and optimistic about what regime change might bring.

Whether voters agree with that assessment will likely factor into their 2024 decisions. Trump’s statement ensures Iran policy will remain part of the national political conversation as the election approaches.
