Justin Bieber won’t be happy about this one! A week after the singer faced major criticism over his laid-back Coachella performance, a report revealed his second performance cost the music festival a whopping 5-figure fine. Bieber has received significant attention over the past several months amid concerns from the public and those in his inner circle.

According to Billboard, the promoter of Coachella Valley Music Festival was hit with more than $40,000 in fines after two of their performers went past curfew. A spokesperson for the City of Indio said the iconic festival, which has featured major performers like Beyoncé and Ariana Grande in the past, was charged for playing after 1:00 AM.

On April 17, 2026, singer Anyma’s set lasted until 1:09 AM, while Bieber’s April 18 performance concluded at 1:02 AM. The festival was subsequently charged $24,000 and $20,000, respectively. The famed music festival, which has been hosted in the City of Indio since 1999, has an agreement with the city that its performers end their sets by 1:00 AM on Fridays and Saturdays, and by 12:00 AM on Sundays. Coachella is fined $20,000 for the first five minutes, after which charges increase.

This isn’t the first time Coachella has been slammed for going past curfew. According to Los Angeles 7, the City of Indio charged the festival $117,000 in 2023.

The six-figure fine came after going over 22 minutes on Friday and 25 minutes on Saturday and Sunday. While pricey, the fines are said to go towards the city’s general fund, which helps fund city projects.

Before Bieber and Anyma, other artists, including Paul McCartney, Travis Scott, Calvin Harris, and Frank Ocean, have cost the festival thousands in fines.

According to The Blast, Bieber’s Coachella performance made headlines for all the wrong reasons. During his first performance the night of April 11, the “SWAG” singer took the stage in a laid-back look, donning baggy black denim shorts and a hoodie.

The performance, which mainly featured songs from his last two projects, drew backlash as many hoped the superstar would hit the festival stage with an over-the-top set of his classic singles.

Online, users slammed the set as “weird” and “sad,” but the Grammy winner didn’t let the backlash ruin his high.

“He felt great about the set. He was excited to reconnect with fans in a way that felt true to where he is now,” an insider said. “He’s not focused on how it’s being labeled. He wanted to show up and do it his way. And that’s exactly what he did. He’s happy with how it turned out.”

Bieber’s wife, Hailey, was also cheering him on despite the critcism. “Hailey hosted several Rhode-related events, including an exclusive pop-up. They really made the most of it though. They were able to support each other and also focus on their own projects. It was a mix of work, time with friends and just enjoying the weekend together,” the source said.

In April 2025, Bieber garnered the attention of many after he had several public outbursts, according to The Blast.

In one video, the singer was seen blasting a paparazzi who appeared to be following him around Palm Springs.

“What the f-ck?” Bieber said. “In the desert, really?” He continued, calling the media “f-cking a–holes.”

“Why are you guys out here? You’re gonna record me and sh-t, too,” he shared. “Give me a f-cking break for two seconds.”

    Bieber Talks ‘Anger Issues’

Before that, Bieber admitted that he struggled with “anger issues” after receiving pushback for posting a picture of himself with a bong.

“I’ve got anger issues too, but I wanna grow and not react so much smh,” he wrote. “I think I hate myself sometimes when I feel myself start to become inauthentic. Then I remember we’re all being made to think we’re not enough, but I still hate when I change myself to please people.”

Bieber went on to say that his feelings of rage stem from his childhood, during which he was apparently told to keep things bottled inside.

“I WAS ALWAYS TOLD WHEN I WAS A KID NOT TO HATE … BUT IT MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WASNT ALLOWED TO HAVE IT AND SO I DIDN’T TELL ANYONE IVE HAD IT,” he said.
