Amazon MGM has just released the trailer for the upcoming adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel, Verity, starring The Devil Wears Prada 2 star Anne Hathaway and Materialists star Dakota Johnson.
The adaptation of Hoover’s original 2018 psychological-romantic thriller is directed by Michael Showalter, the director of The Eyes of Tammy Faye, who works from a script by Nick Antosca, writer of Cape Fear.
Additional cast members include Josh Hartnett, Brady Wagner, Asel Swango and Daniel Echevarria.
Verity focuses on Johnson’s Lowen Ashleigh, a writer in need of work who thinks she’s struck gold when she is hired to complete a book series penned by a successful author called Verity Crawford, played by Hathaway. However, Lowen stumbles upon a dark, mysterious secret when she discovers Verity’s manuscript, prompting questions about Verity’s mental state.
Hoover and Hathaway share producer credits with Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Showalter, and Jordana Mollick.
This will mark the fifth adaptation of a Hoover novel and the fourth feature film one, following the TV series re-telling of her book Confess and the films It Ends with Us by director Justin Baldoni, Regretting You by director Josh Boone and Reminders of Him by director Vanessa Caswill.
Film adaptations of the author’s work have so far grossed a combined total of $529.5 million at the box office.
Hathaway has also recently appeared in the sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, and David Lowery’s psychological drama Mother Mary. Johnson has had recent performances in the Michael Angelo Covino comedy Spiltsville and Celine Song’s rom-com drama Materialists.
Verity hits cinemas on October 6th.
