According to Deadline, Scooby Doo and Scream star Matthew Lillard is set to join Man of Tomorrow from DC Studios, the sequel to last year’s Superman from James Gunn.
It is unclear at this stage who Lillard is set to play, although Reddit is already going into overdrive with predictions ranging from Plastic Man all the way through to a return to Shaggy in a Scooby Doo crossover. He is set to join the likes of David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult playing Lex Luthor, Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathon Fillion as Guy Gardner and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.
Lillard previously told an audience at Los Angeles Comic-Con that “I have wanted to be in a superhero world. I’ve wanted to be in [the DCU], if anyone’s curious. If you run into James Gunn, tell him I’m available. I keep waiting for that invitation. I don’t know if it’s lost in the mail.”
The film is set to pick up after the events of Superman as the titular hero is forced to team up with his nemesis Lex Luther (Hoult) to defeat an even bigger threat: the super-intelligent antagonist Brainiac (Eidinger). James Gunn is back directing and producing, having also written the script.
It marks a reunion for Lillard and Gunn, as Gunn wrote the Scooby-Doo films in which Lillard played Shaggy.
Man of Tomorrow opens on July 9th, 2027.
