President Trump is not one to apologize, whether he’s in the wrong or not. But he took the opportunity to make a rare public apology to his wife during a special event. Keep reading to find out why he was apologizing to the First Lady of the United States.
President Trump & First Lady Celebrate Military Moms
President Trump is a huge supporter of the military. He took time out of his busy schedule to take a moment to honor military moms. The White House hosted an event honoring both members of the military who are mothers and moms who have children in the military.
The First Lady, Melania Trump, joined him for the event. During his speech, the President praised the “excellent job” she’s done as the First Lady, as well as a mother to their only son, Barron.
“I want to thank you, Melania. Amazing job you’ve done She has a little boy who’s quite tall. He’s a little boy to us, but he’s quite tall, right? And he’s great, Barron, and she takes great care of him. And thank you, Great mom,” he praised her.
But the crowd was taken aback when he issued a very public apology to his wife for a huge mistake.
He Publicly Apologizes To Wife After Massive Mistake
Melania Trump is the President’s third wife. He’s allegedly been unfaithful to all of his wives. However, that wasn’t why he apologized. The President is very active on social media. He can tweet dozens of times a night. Sometimes his tweets included typos, including the famous “Covfefe.”

One typo that was a regular occurrence was the spelling of his own wife’s name. President Trump was heavily roasted in the press for years after calling her “Melanie,” or even “Melody.” He took a moment in his speech to address the constant misspellings.
According to the President, the mistakes were the fault of spellcheck. “Because for a long time, you know, they have spell correct and word correct on these crazy machines that we use to put out truths, or they used to be called tweets, and every time I wrote Melania it would correct to ‘Melanie,’” he claimed.
He added that it continued to be a problem until he had the “military” fix it. President Trump didn’t elaborate on how. I stood up here to explain it to you. I apologize,” he said directly to the First Lady during the military event.
The misspellings were a regular joke on late-night talk shows. Jimmy Kimmel poked fun at the mistake in 2018 when Trump took to social media with a health update after the First Lady had surgery.
“Great to have our incredible first lady back home in the White House. Melanie is feeling and doing very well,” the President wrote on Twitter at the time. The message was later deleted and reposted with the correct spelling. But Jimmy Kimmel didn’t let the mistake pass unnoticed.
“‘Melania’ is not a common name, but it’s not so hard to spell. But to be fair to him, he’s had quite a few wives. So, it’s hard to keep track,” the ABC talk show host joked, according to Us Weekly.
