Hugh Jackman is one of the most recognizable movie stars. Fans have seen him in all kinds of roles – from Logan in X-Men to showing off his singing voice in The Greatest Showman. After decades in Hollywood, the Australian native has had quite a few encounters with fans. He opened up about a flirty fan’s strange proposition.
Hugh Jackman Opens Up About Flirty Fan’s Strange Proposition
Hugh Jackman has starred in some strange movies over the years. However, his latest release might be the strangest one yet. In Sheep Detective, he plays a shepherd who regularly reads aloud to his flock of sheep. When he’s murdered, the sheep begin a quest to solve the murder.
The mystery-comedy hits movie theaters on Friday, May 8. Hugh Jackman made the talk show rounds this week to promote the movie. His story about a shocking fan encounter was even stranger than his latest movie. Alyssa Farah Griffin asked the actor when he was on The View if it was true that it’s a custom in Australia to always greet people on the street.
Hugh Jackman confirmed that it was true, adding that people would take offense if you didn’t say hello. “Aussies do, if you sort of don’t say ‘Hi,’ to an Aussie, they’re like, ‘Oh, too big for your boots now!’ Doesn’t matter where you are. You could be anywhere. If you see an Aussie, you kind of have to say, ‘Hi.’”
But he got a lot more than just a harmless greeting from one fan while in New York. The fan kissed him and then made a shocking proposition. “This woman came up to me and gave me a kiss on my lips. And the husband goes, ‘So we’re gonna grab a beer ?’ to go grab a beer,” he shared.
Hugh Jackman turned the beer down, prompting the stranger to give him an odd look. “I’m like, ‘I just met you, presumably, your wife has just kissed me on the lips. I don’t know where this beer is heading, but I don’t want any part of it,’” he told the hosts of the ABC talk show.
Wolverine Star Attends Met Gala With New Flame
Hugh Jackman’s promotional tour came days after he made his debut at the Met Gala with his new flame. He announced in 2023 that he was separating from his wife of 27 years, Deborra-lee Furness. Their divorce was finalized in 2025.
Rumors began swirling in 2024 that he had found love with a co-star. He starred with Sutton Foster in The Music Man in 2022. The two reportedly became close friends. Romance rumors picked up in October 2025 when she filed for divorce from her husband of ten years.
They didn’t go public with their relationship until January 2025. The reaction to the romance wasn’t kind to either of them. However, they’ve been stepping out more and more lately.

They made their debut as a couple at the Met Gala on Monday, May 4. The reaction on social media was, again, very negative. However, they seemed happier than ever cuddling up on the red carpet and posing for pictures.
