    Canadiens take 2-1 lead over Sabres in 2nd round of the playoffs

    The Montreal Canadiens have won their sixth game of the 2026 National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoffs. On Sunday at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, the Canadiens trounced the Buffalo Sabres 6-2. In the process, the Canadiens have taken a two games to one series lead in their best out of seven Eastern Conference second round playoff series.

    Alex Newhook of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador led the Canadiens with two goals. He now has five postseason goals in 10 games. Newhook also led the Canadiens with two goals in game two, a 5-1 Montreal won in Buffalo on Friday in New York state to tie the series at one game apiece.

    Newhook was one of two Canadians in game three who had a muti-point games for the Canadiens. The other was multi-positional forward Jake Evans of Toronto, Ontario. Evans, who can play centre and right wing, had two assists.

    Two more Canadians scored for the Canadiens. They were Zachary Bolduc of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, and Kirby Dach of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. The other two Canadiens goal scorers were Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky.

    The series now stays in Canada for the fourth game on Tuesday night. The winner of the Canadiens/Sabres series will face the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final.
