Team Canada won the bronze medal at a World Cup mixed triathlon relay event in Chengdu, China on Sunday. The Canadian team comprised of Isla Britton of Montreal, Quebec, Sophia Howell of Airdrie, Alberta, Martin Sobey of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and Tyler Mislawchuk of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Spain won the gold medal with a time of one hour, 22 minutes and 22 seconds. Great Britain won the silver medal with a time of one hour, 22 minutes and 33 seconds. Canada’s third place time was one hour, 22 minutes and 53 seconds. Canada beat the United States for the podium spot. The United States also had a time of one hour, 22 minutes and 53 seconds, however Sobey just beat American Braxton Legg to the finish line in the run.
The fastest Canadian was Mislawchuk, who had a time of 19 minutes and 14 seconds. Sobey’s time was 20 minutes and 16 seconds, Britton had a time of 21 minutes and 33 seconds, and Howell had a time of 21 minutes and 50 seconds.
This was Mislawchuk’s second medal on the weekend. He won the bronze in the men’s event on Saturday. Mislawchuk has now won nine World Cup triathlon medals (three gold, three silver and three bronze). This was Howell’s second World Cup triathlon medal as she won bronze in a women’s event in San Pedro de La Paz, Chile on November 8, 2025. The medals for Britton, Howell, Sobey and Mislawchuk will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
