Today Show meteorologist and fan favorite Al Roker revealed that his daughter had tied the knot. This was such exciting news, but there was a catch, which included a major health crisis intertwined with the big day. So, what is going on, and will everyone be okay? Keep reading for more details.
Al Roker Celebrates Daughter’s Nuptials
It was a big day for Al Roker and Deborah Roberts’ daughter, Leila Roker. The twenty-seven-year-old married Sylvain Gricourt in Paris after a year engagement. However, the two had been dating for seven years before Sylvain popped the question, so it was a long time coming. Now, Al had mentioned that Leila and Sylvain were preparing to walk down the aisle around Mother’s Day 2026. Yet, he did not give away any specifics until the Tuesday, May 12th episode of the Today Show. That was when he stated he had been in Europe for Leila’s wedding, but that was not all.
On his way home, the CDC was asking people to voluntarily test, but the meteorologist had no idea why. He explained this when the anchors were discussing hantavirus:
“I was coming from Europe this weekend from my daughter’s wedding, and the CDC was asking people to voluntarily test. But they didn’t say for what, so I just wonder if it was a precaution here.”
It was supposed to be a celebratory moment, and then it was somewhat derailed by the possibility of the virus. Allegedly, it is nothing like COVID, but it does require an extensive isolation period. It is apparently rare in America, but quite popular in Asia. Between 1993 and 2023, 890 cases have been reported in America. However, it is seeing a resurgence in 2026, which is likely why Al Roker had to test.
Although Today viewers were thrilled for Al Roker and his family, they felt that this was an interesting way to slip in hantavirus. The two did not necessarily go together. However, Al was making it clear that testing can happen anywhere, when one least expects it.
