2000s babies will be delighted to hear that Disney Channel has confirmed a summer release date for Camp Rock 3, the third instalment in the Disney Channel original musical film series centred around a musical camp for gifted, passionate teenagers. This follows confirmation of a third film in September last year, made by Disney Branded Television, also confirming the Jonas Brothers (Kevin, Joe and Nick) will reprise their roles from the last two films.
The first Camp Rock film was released in 2008 on the Disney Channel. It starred Demi Lovato as an aspiring, talented young singer whose mother lands a job at a musical camp, prompting her to join as a kitchen assistant, yet she poses as another camper. Additional stars included Meaghan Jette Martin, Maria Canals-Barrera, Daniel Fathers, and Alyson Stoner, alongside the Jonas’s.
The film, directed by Matthew Diamond and written by Karin Gist, Regina Hicks, Julie Brown, and Paul Brown, became the channel’s second most viewed debut with 8.9 million viewers, coming behind 2007’s High School Musical 2, and is hailed by 2000s kids as a classic.
The sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, in 2010, with Lovato, the Jonas Brothers, Martin, Canals-Barrera, Fathers, and Stoner all returning to their original roles. Focused on a rival, more modern musical style camp, Camp Star, challenging Camp Rock’s status, and thus prompting a competition. It attracted 7.9 million viewers on its debut, 2010’s most popular cable television premiere.
The third film will see Kevin, Joe and Nick reprise their roles with Canals-Barrera, with the Jonas Brothers holding executive producer credits alongside Lovato. It will be directed by Veronica Rodriguez and written by Eydie Faye.
The premise will focus on Connect 3, the fictional band played by the JoBros, returning to Camp Rock in search of a new opening act, having lost their previously planned one. The audition process proves to be a cause of tension, conflict and discovery of talent.
Liamani Segura, Hudson Stone, Malachi Barton, Lumi Pollack, Casey Trotter, Brooklynn Pitts and Ava Jean will join the cast as a fresh, new generation of musicians and influencers.
Camp Rock 3 will be released on Disney+ and The Disney Channel this August.
