Prime Video has officially released a brand-new trailer for Spider-Noir, the upcoming live-action superhero noir series starring Nicolas Cage in the title role. The series marks Cage’s first leading role in a television production, bringing the Oscar-winning actor back to a character he previously voiced in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Set in 1930s New York City, Spider-Noir reimagines the Marvel character in a gritty detective story inspired by classic noir cinema. Cage stars as Ben Reilly, an ageing private investigator and former masked vigilante who was once the city’s only superhero when a devastating personal tragedy forces him to step away.
In a unique creative decision, Prime Video will allow viewers to watch the series in either full black-and-white or colour, giving audiences the option to experience the show in a more traditional noir presentation or a modern style.
Joining Cage is a supporting cast that includes Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Brendan Gleeson, and Karen Rodriguez. The series is also directed in part by Harry Bradbeer, known for his work on Fleabag and Enola Holmes.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with Amazon MGM Studios, Spider-Noir will exist within an alternate universe connected to Sony’s expanding Spider-Man universe. The project was developed and executive-produced by Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller; the creative team behind the critically acclaimed Spider-Verse animated films that first introduced Cage’s version of Spider-Noir to audiences.
With its darker tone, period setting, and detective-driven storytelling, Spider-Noir appears to be a major stylistic departure from traditional superhero television.
The series has already generated strong anticipation among Marvel fans, particularly due to Cage’s long-awaited return to the role in live-action form.
Spider-Noir premieres on Prime Video on May 27th.
