NCIS is currently in between seasons. However, fans are still getting content to enjoy. Actor Sean Murray recently opened up to fans about his time on the show. This included the departure of one actor and the arrival of another.
Sean Murray Recently Spoke On The NCIS: Partners & Probies Podcast
As an actor, Murray is known for portraying Timothy McGee on NCIS. He originally joined the show in 2003 as a recurring character in the first season. Starting with the second season, he then became part of the main cast.
Recently, NCIS finished up Season 23 this past May. Since then, Murray recently sat down to speak with fellow NCIS stars Brian Dietzen and Diona Reasonover during an episode of the NCIS: Partners & Probies podcast.
Looking back at how long Murray has been part of the NCIS universe, Reasonover asked what compelled him to stay in the role for so long, from fans to a love for the character.
Sean Murray Had Worked With Both Mark Harmon & Gary Cole In Projects As A Teenager
Murray agreed that it was all of those things. He then began to reflect on the cast exits he’s seen over the years.
Murray noted, “We’ve been so fortunate with the different iterations of cast that we’ve had come through, too.” He then discussed one actor’s departure in particular. He continued, “I mean, I remember when Mark [Harmon] was kind of getting ready for Gibbs to appear less and less.”

Harmon left the show during Season 19, with Gibbs staying in Alaska. While he hasn’t returned to the show in person, the character appears on the prequel, Origins, with Harmon also narrating the series.
As previously reported, Gibbs might have also played a role in NCIS Season 23 unseen. As a teenager, Murray had worked with Harmon during an episode of the series, Harts of the West.
Of course, as some actors exit a show, others come on board. During the conversation, Murray then also discussed Gary Cole becoming part of the show. He shared, “I remember some of the discussions about Gary Cole joining the show, and I remember getting the phone call about, ‘OK, so Gary’s the guy,’ and I remember feeling like, ‘Yeah, thank God. Thank God.’ Because we have real stuff to work like in a big way there.”

Murray also worked with Cole during a movie of the week as a teenager in the 1990s. According to him, Cole remembered the project better than him. As he noted, “I couldn’t remember the name of it and he remembered it was called For My Daughter’s Honor.”
