The first feature by German creative collective Die Kleinen Brüder is currently in development. Titled Aliens over Meck-Pomm, the sci-fi comedy marks the big-screen debut by the team behind the acclaimed comedy series Die Discounter, combining absurd humour with a satirical look at contemporary rural life.
The film is set in the small Mecklenburg village of Lebin-Ausbau, where a spaceship unexpectedly crashes. What follows is less an alien-invasion story than a portrait of rural coexistence. A sleepy, quarrelsome community suddenly finds itself confronted with five aliens and discovers that they are the least of its problems. As the bewildered visitors from outer space wander through the village, the community reveals its true face, shaped by mistrust, resentment and that particular form of stubbornness that has been elevated to an art form in small towns. The already fragile peace in the settlement finally spirals out of control.
The project is written by Bruno Alexander together with twin brothers Emil and Oskar Belton, who collectively form the core creative team behind Die Discounter. Bruno Alexander and Emil Belton will also co-direct the feature. The trio has built up a reputation for its distinctive blend of improvised comedy and sharply observed social satire, while Alexander is additionally known for his acting work in Scham and Oh, This Unspeakable Void.
Speaking about the collaboration, Die Kleinen Brüder stated: “Our first feature film should really pack a punch, and Constantin Film is the perfect partner for that. We’re learning a lot of new things from them, but they also give us enough freedom in all the right places so that our own signature style remains intact. We’re incredibly excited about cinema. Things are only just getting started!”
Constantin Film CEO Oliver Berben added: “Die Kleinen Brüder are one of the most exciting creative teams I know. Anyone who comes up with the idea of sending aliens to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern either has a great deal of courage or a great deal of talent. In the case of Die Kleinen Brüder, it is obviously both. We’re delighted to be bringing their first feature to cinemas together.”
Aliens over Meck-Pomm is being produced by Bruno Alexander, Emil Belton and Oskar Belton for Hamburg-based Die Kleinen Brüder, in co-production with Munich-based Constantin Film, which will also handle distribution. The project has already secured support from MOIN Film Fund Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein and MV Filmförderung, while additional funding applications are currently pending. Production is scheduled to take place in autumn 2026, with a theatrical release planned for 2027.
