Olivia Wilde is getting raw and honest about a painful part of her life.
The filmmaker recently shed light on the end of her relationship with Jason Sudeikis, revealing that she realized things had come to an end sometime in March 2020, after her birthday party.
The former couple was together from 2011 until 2020, after which Wilde dated Harry Styles briefly for about a year.
During an appearance on the most recent episode of Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Wilde discussed her new film, “The Invite,” admitting that it’s not surprising that she tends to make movies about the complexity of relationships.
Speaking on her own experience with romantic relationships, Wilde recalled the moment she knew her chapter with Sudeikis had come to a firm close. She told the story of driving home with Sudeikis and realizing that he hadn’t gotten her a gift.
This prompted her to ask him, “Did you give me a birthday present?” To which he replied, “What would I get you, Olivia? I don’t know you.”
The candid reply made the actress realize that she and her former partner had indeed become strangers. The harsh realization ironically became what sparked the making of the film.
“This is the thing that made me wanna make this movie because — or one of the things — because you can get to a place in a relationship where you stop engaging in the knowing of each other,” she said. “And you find yourself in a place where you’re like, ‘I don’t even know you.’”
The actress admitted that even though she knew her relationship had ended, it was still a “tough” situation to navigate.

Following the tragic end of her relationship, Wilde found herself in an uncomfortable situation when she was served papers from Sudeikis CinemaCon in 2022.
During the podcast episode, the actress recalled the horrifying ordeal. She revealed that it traumatized her so much that she had to go to therapy afterward.
She admitted that being on stage already put her in a vulnerable position, and when she was served the papers while in the middle of her speech, she almost found it too difficult to process.
Luckily, she was able to get through her speech before going backstage and bursting into tears. And while she hoped no one saw what happened, it was all over the internet.

In the aftermath of her tragic separation, Wilde struggled to pick up the pieces of her life, as did Sudeikis. The actor recently opened up about his dating life and how difficult it is to find love as someone with children.
According to The Blast, Sudeikis confirmed that he is currently not seeing anyone. In the same breath, he said that he is at a point in his life where dating can easily feel “daunting and overwhelming.”
Nevertheless, Sudeikis is more interested in forming meaningful connections with people, instead of dating many people at once.

Just days after confessing his challenges in finding love again, Sudeikis found himself in the same room with his ex, Wilde, as they both attended their nine-year-old daughter’s graduation.
Page Six confirmed that the duo was seen leaving together with their daughter, and they both appeared to be in good spirits.
For the celebration, Sudeikis wore a blue and cream shirt paired with cargo shorts, while Wilde donned a blue sweater with jeans.
In addition to navigating a co-parenting relationship with Sudeikis, Wilde has also had to navigate aging life in the public eye.
The 42-year-old actress recently sparked debate online after some harsh critics likened her appearance to a corpse and Gollum from “The Lord of the Rings.” However, rather than get offended by the crude comparisons, Wilde laughed it off, as reported by The Blast.
She shared a video of herself laughing when her brother asked her to respond to the rumors that likened her to a “resurrected corpse.”
Finding humor in it, she admitted that the image in question wasn’t her most flattering. Still laughing, she pointedly made it known that she was “not dead.”
