The first trailer for Sense and Sensibility has been released, directed by Georgia Oakley and written by Diana Reid, who has adapted the Jane Austen novel.
Twisters and Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones, plays Elinor Dashwood, the protagonist of the novel. Other actors in the line-up include Esmé Creed-Miles, Caitríona Balfe, George MacKay, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, and Fiona Shaw.
Sony Pictures previously adapted Sense and Sensibility in 1995, with Ang Lee directing and Emma Thompson writing the screenplay. The film received seven Oscar nominations, including a win for Thompson for Best Adapted Screenplay.
The novel is probably set between 1792 and 1797 and follows the three Dashwood sisters and their widowed mother as they are forced to leave the family estate in Sussex and move to a modest cottage on the property of a distant relative in Devon.
Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title are listed as producers along with India Flint of November Pictures and Jo Wallett of Kiddo Films. Focus Features has previously worked with Working Title on the 2005 adaptation of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and the 2020 adaptation of Austen’s Emma.
Synopsis:
Set in Georgian-era England, Austen’s classic follows wealthy Mr Dashwood, who dies, leaving his second wife and three daughters in rather poor shape. The ladies move to a modest cottage where the two older daughters vie for the attention of various suitors in search of true love.
Sense and Sensibility is set for release on September 26th.
