Christel Khalil First Joined The Young And The Restless In 2022, But Started Acting At A Young Age
In the world of soaps, Khalil is known for playing Lily Winters on The Young and the Restless. Originally playing the character from 2002 to 2005, she returned to Genoa City in 2006.
Starting her career as a child actress, Khalil has appeared in a number of films and television shows. As a voice actress, she is also known for portraying Cornelia Hale in the animated adaptation of the W.I.T.C.H. comics.
Recently, Khalil made an appearance on the Soapy podcast. She sat down with fellow castmate Greg Rikaart and The Bold and the Beautiful‘s Rebecca Budig. During the conversation, she revealed that her soap career could have ended before it had a chance to begin.
The actress explained that she almost walked away from acting when she was 14 years old. At the time, she lost out on playing the lead role in That’s So Raven, which ultimately went to Raven-Symoné. She shared, “I was just so devastated because for the network call there were 20 people in the room watching me… I’ve always had such performance anxiety and I just completely bombed the audition. It was terrible so I was just devastated. And I was actually going to quit acting.”

However, someone close to the actress convinced her to go for the part: her brother, who also went through a similar experience. He shared, “My brother, who is seven years older than me, he quit acting the same age that I was at that time.”
Khalil continued, “He was like, ‘Christel, I promise you, I actually really regret quitting,’ [and] he’s like, ‘Just go on this audition. And if you don’t get it, you can quit but if you just go…’” Ultimately, she felt, “I was like, fine, if I don’t get it I’m done.”
Obviously, Khalil went through with the audition after all and joined the soap. The role has since earned her an NAACP Image and Daytime Emmy Award.
