President Trump is lashing out at reporters for The New York Times, saying their upcoming book about his presidency is largely fabricated and “garbage.”
The president described the book as “mostly made up, Fake News, largely fiction.” He slammed one of the book’s writers, Maggie Haberman, as “a third-rate writer and intellect.’”
He said Ms. Haberman has “made a first-rate income because of your favorite president, me.”
“She was wrong about me on the elections, although she knew I was going to win Big! She was wrong about me on the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax and she was wrong on me on just about everything else,” Mr. Trump posted on Truth Social. “But she continues to spew out garbage and people continue to buy it.”
Ms. Haberman partnered with Jonathan Swan and has shared excerpts from their book, “Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump.” The book covers Mr. Trump’s decision to launch a war against Iran, pursue retribution against his enemies and transform the federal government.
Among some of the revelations in the book is that administration officials discussed suspending habeas corpus, Mr. Trump wanted to “torture” former Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell by humilating him and Vice President J.D. Vance differed from the administration on how to handle the fallout from documents tied to deceased sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
The book includes quotes from Mr. Vance, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and White House communications director Steven Cheung during the Epstein meeting. That has led some to conclude the reporters had access to audio tapes of the top security meeting. Both reporters have declined to comment on whether they were granted access to audio tapes.
