    Sarah Mitton and Marco Arop win Diamond League gold in Paris

    Sarah Mitton of Liverpool, Nova Scotia and Canadian Olympic silver medalist Marco Arop of Edmonton, Alberta both won Diamond League gold in Paris, France on Sunday. Mitton won gold in the women’s shot put, and Arop won gold in the men’s 800 metres.

    Mitton won the gold medal with a throw of 19.99 metres. Yemisi Mabry of Germany won the silver medal with a throw of 19.93 metres. Jessica Schilder of the Netherlands won the bronze medal with a throw of 19.89 metres. Mitton reached the podium by 0.74 metres over Axelina Johansson of Sweden, who finished in fourth place with a throw of 19.25 metres.

    In the Diamond League standings, Mitton is in second place with 26 points. Schilder leads with 29 points.

    Arop won the gold medal in dominant fashion with a time of 1:41.84, the fastest time in the world in 2026. Niels Laros of the Netherlands won the silver medal with a personal best time of 1:43.60. Tobias Gronstad of Norway won the bronze medal with a time of 1:43.63. Arop, who won the silver medal in the men’s 800m at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, reached the podium by 1.87 seconds over Ben Pattison of Great Britain, who had a fourth place time of 1:43.71.

    In the Diamond League standings, Arop leads with 21 points. Cooper Lutkenhaus of the United States is second with 16 points.

    Arop has now won 23 Diamond League medals. He has six gold medals, nine silver medals and eight bronze medals. Mitton has now won 19 Diamond League medals. She has three gold medals, eight silver medals and eight bronze medals. The gold medals for Arop and Mitton will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
