An Emmy-winning news anchor has been slammed by her boss for enjoying her vacation. They were then told that they needed to cover up, as they were not an “influencer.” Therefore, they should not act like one. Keep reading for more on what went down and if this newscaster opted to keep their job.
News Anchor Cannot Have Fun
Having a job often means being incredibly dedicated. Yet, there is also time off and downtime where one can let loose. That was the case with a news anchor from Florida who took a sweet vacation to Fiji. While there, the six-time Emmy winner decided to post snaps from her trip to document the fun that she was having with her friends. This is a well-deserved time away as she helms two time slots, Monday through Friday. Unfortunately, her boss felt this was completely inappropriate.
Jenise Fernandez rocked bikinis and dinner dresses for her time away. However, she was scolded when she got back, as the VP of her company, Bill Pohovey, had a strong message. He made it clear to all who worked for him that they are not “influencers.” Therefore, they need to stop acting as if they are. In a message he had previously sent out, Bill had this to say:
“Your station social media accounts should be used to share news/weather/sports information and help to drive traffic to our newscasts and website. But I think these same guidelines apply to personal social media accounts.”
Regarding Jenise’s posts, Bill did have to acquiesce and state that, because they live in Florida, it was deemed okay. In the Sunshine State, everyone wears bikinis, so for that reason, she was okay. He likely did not want to risk losing one of his best anchors over a vacation photo dump.
