BUDAPEST: Hungary’s film sector has welcomed a major boost after Péter Magyar’s newly elected government lifted the cap on new registrations for the country’s 30%–37.5% film tax incentive.
Introduced in 2025 by the previous administration, the cap caused severe production delays, left studios semi-empty, and pushed major international projects to other territories.
However, Hungary has maintained its status as a major production hub. Recent high-profile projects benefiting from the caped tax incentive included Amazon MGM’s Alone at Dawn, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s The Kellys, season two of The Day of the Jackal, and TriStar’s The Nightingale. Upcoming projects slated to benefit from the stabilised system include Disney+’s Monster and Amazon’s Legacy of Spies.
