Ryan Coogler’s newest project a reboot of The X-Files has finished shooting its two-hour pilot, and Coogler has big plans for it. Reports state that Coogler has asked Disney to consider releasing the pilot as a full-length feature film.
Coogler has written and directed the pilot, and the series will star Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel as the FBI agents alongside Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi and Ben Foster. The synopsis for the reboot reads:
“Two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.”
The pilot was reportedly shot on 65mm film by Autumn Durald Arkapaw. Arkapaw has worked with Coogler before on Sinners. She was the first woman of colour to be nominated for and the first woman and Black person to win an Oscar for cinematography.
Alongside Sinners, Coogler is well-known for Fruitvale Station, his directorial debut; his reboot of Creed starring Michael B Jordan and Marvel’s Black Panther. Patel recently received critical acclaim for his performance in The Odyssey as Eurylochus – his second collaboration with Christopher Nolan. Deadwyler is known for her work in The Harder They Fall, Till and The Piano Lesson.
