Actor Jim Parsons won fortune, fame, and accolades thanks to his work on The Big Bang Theory. However, the actor recently admitted that he went through a few struggles during this time of his life. In fact, he also weighed in on the underlying issue of what was causing these problems for him.
Jim Parsons Brought Sheldon Cooper To Life On The Big Bang Theory For Over A Decade
For many, Parsons is known for playing Sheldon Cooper on the long-running CBS sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, which ran from 2007 to 2019. Towards the end of the show’s run, Parsons was also considered one of the highest-paid actors in the world. For his work on the show, he also won Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe.
Following his breakthrough, Parsons later gained recognition on stage, making his Broadway debut with The Normal Heart. Since then, he has appeared in stage shows including Mother Play, Our Town, and Titanique.
Recently, Parsons appeared on the All Out with Jon Dean podcast. During the moment, he admitted that, even through some of his biggest professional wins, he went through personal struggles.
Parsons shared, “I look back now and realize that there were many ways, at some of the best moments of my life, I was miserable. I was not happy. I was stressed.”
Parsons Felt That Compulsion Was Driving This Stress, Not True Ambition
The actor felt that he was often weighed down by self-imposed expectations, making himself his own worst enemy. He shared, “I felt that there was so many plates I was supposed to be keeping in the air and that the success and the good things of life that were happening were only due to this overworking … discipline and whatever. And maybe to a degree that was true. I don’t know.”
Looking back, Parsons maintained that he wouldn’t repeat this part of his life. He shared, “I wouldn’t do that again and for any amount of money… just because it was stressful and miserable at times. I made myself miserable.”
For his part, Dean wondered if this could just be attributed to Parsons’ work ethic. However, the actor felt, “It translated in part into a work ethic, but it was really just obsessive behavior basically.” Ultimately, he felt what made this unhealthy for him was that pushing himself came from compulsion instead of true ambition.
